Analysts at a bookmaker company Parimatch researched the gambling activity of citizens of Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Georgia, determining their preferences in sports betting. According to received information, the goals and interests of these countries’ residents significantly vary.
In terms of motivation, betting just for the fun of it is most popular among Georgians. 61% of them consider betting a hobby and only 39% – a way of making money.
In Russia and Belarus, the situation is completely opposite. In these countries the ratios are 37% to 63% and 32% to 68%, with betting for the sake of money leading.
Citizens of Ukraine and Kazakhstan are even more obsessed with the possibility of additional earnings. In these countries, the ratios are 27% to 73% and 28% to 72%, not in favor of hobby betting at all.
In all these countries, soccer is the most popular sport. However, in Georgia, basketball almost caught up to it, and in Belarus – tennis. The closest competitor of football in Russia is hockey. As for the residents of Kazakhstan, they stand out with their love for e-sports betting.
