Moscow authorities plan to discuss a new tax rate for the gambling industry in February. The Moscow Department of Regional Security and Combating Corruption made the proposal recently. According to Inna Svyatenko, chairperson of the Moscow City Duma Security Commission, the issue should be fully considered.
A special working group will be established, Svyatenko notes. Experts to decide who will join it in February as well.
As previously reported, Moscow Department of Regional Security and Combating Corruption is concerned about the growing number of bookmakers in the capital. It is often a cover for underground casinos and gambling halls (such activities are illegal in Moscow). There are several hundred land based betting shops in Moscow today.
According to experts of the department, a tax hike will reduce the number of betting offices and increase tax revenues for gambling in the regional budget.
It is not reported, whether tax assessments will change and how much it is planned to increase it.
