Konstantin Makarov: «Increased expenditures will not affect the operations of active bookmakers»

The major bookmaking event in Russia — Betting Trends Forum 2017 – is scheduled for Friday, March 31. Shortly before, the key experts of the conference gave interviews to the Betting Trends Forum press service outlining the main aspects of their forthcoming reports.

According to Executive Director at Bingo Boom, Konstantin Makarov, the World Cup 2018 will boost the development of bookmaking business in Russia, and it is necessary to start active preparations now.

Interviewer: Betting Trends Forum (BTF)

Expert: Konstantin Makarov (K.M.)

BTF: Konstantin, what is your vision of the bookmaking market after the World Cup 2018? What lessons should bookmakers learn from this event?

K.M.: During the preparation for the 2018 World Cup, we and many other bookmakers are going to equip betting shops with new equipment, expand floor-space, improve interior, and retrain some employees. Accordingly, the World Cup will boost the development of the bookmaking business. In general, the service quality level will increase.

BTF: What specific steps should be taken by bookmakers right now to get prepared for 2018?

K.M.: Bookmakers now have to prepare for the abrupt influx of customers. There will be many foreigners among them. In this regard, we need to try to adjust the work of bookmaker offices and set up business processes to make betting shops (especially those in the host cities) ready. Besides, many of them have not launched interactive betting yet, which, undoubtedly, must be done by the beginning of the World Cup.

BTF: What is your opinion on the law on purpose-oriented deductions in bookmaking for the benefit of sports?

K.M.: Purpose-oriented deductions will not significantly affect planned budget activities. I think, currently, this is a feasible expenditure side for the bookmaking business.

BTF: How the law will affect national bookmaking market?

K.M.: Everything has its pros and cons. In general, I see it as positive one. Increased expenditures will not affect the operations of active bookmakers.

BTF: What are your expectations of Betting Trends Forum 2017?

K.M.: I hope the event will be productive. I will be glad to talk to colleagues, discuss prospects and trends in the development of the bookmaking market. I hope my report will be useful to the event participants.

Looking forward to seeing you at the major bookmaking event of the year — Betting Trends Forum – in Moscow on March 31! Location and venue - Mercure Paveletskaya Hotel.
